Dr. Spencer was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and raised in East Lansing. He graduated from East Lansing High School, then went to the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees. Upon graduation, he became a dental officer in the United States Navy, and had tours in California and Okinawa, Japan. It was during this time he met his wife Gina, then a Navy nurse in San Diego. After leaving active duty, Dr. Spencer practiced in Flagstaff, Arizona for six years before the lure of sunny Michigan weather brought him home to the Lansing area in 1994. Upon arriving, he assumed the practice of Dr. Arthur Nolen, a long time and well-respected dentist in Lansing.
Dr. Spencer continues to remain involved with the Navy, and is a Captain in the Navy Reserve's Dental Corps. This affiliation has proved
to provide a rewarding balance, and he remains dedicated to serve those
in uniform. He has traveled extensively in this endeavor, and
networking with other clinicians from all over the world has aided him in
his private practice as well.Continuing education is vitally important to Dr. Spencer, and he continually takes courses to stay current with new techniques and materials. He is on the State Board of Dentistry for the state of Michigan, and serves as its Vice Chair. He is also a Northeast Regional Board Examiner, where he helps conduct exams across the Northeastern United States for dentists and hygienists seeking various state licenses. He is a member of the American and Michigan Dental Associations, the Central District Dental Society, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, and the Frances B. Vedder Crown and Bridge Study Club.
When not involved with his practice, the Navy, or the State Board, Dr. Spencer enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with his wife Gina. Their son Brian attends Albion College where he studies business and plays football, so they spend many a fall Saturday sitting in small college bleachers. They reside in East Lansing.
